Sestriere in origine è una zona di piccoli insediamenti dediti alle attività' pastorali, con Napoleone la strada che vi passa diventa carrozzabile ma bisogna attendere il 1921 per vedere nascere il primo albergo grazie alla famiglia Possetto. Nel 1930, il Senatore Giovanni Agnelli ha l'idea di creare a Sestriere una grande stazione sciistica. Nascono così le funivie, vengono costruite le celebri torri ed in pochi anni si crea un nuovo insediamento alpino a livello internazionale. E' proprio in questi anni che il Signor Possetto, convince l'amico Lantelme Charret Serafino a rientrare da Parigi e ad aprire al pubblico una trattoria ricavata dalla vecchia casa situata a Sestriere Borgata ,l'antica Sestrières, frazione di Pragelato. La trattoria della Banchetta prende il nome dalla cima che la sovrasta. La stessa dà il nome alla pista di discesa libera che ha visto i migliori discesisti cimentarsi in gare mozzafiato.

Sestriere was originally a small sheepfarming communities area.. During the Napoleonic era, the road leading to Sestriere becomes suitable for carriages. The first hotel was completed in 1921 by Possetto and in 1930 Senator Giovanni Agnelli foundor of FIAT has the great idea of creating a major ski resort.. Hence cable cars are installed and the famous towers are built to host the skiers. In few years a new internationally known alpine resort is created.. In those years Mr Possetto invites his friend, Lantelme Charret Serafino to come back from Paris and to open, in his old house located in Sestriere Borgata, the ancient village of Sestrières, a Restaurant called Trattoria della Banchetta. The name is given by Mount Banchetta standing right there. The exciting downhill race pist also gets his name from this huge Mount.
